Popular Card Games to Play Online

One of our favorite sources of entertainment has always been card games. Card games have been around for centuries and we cannot be certain of their origins. What we can do is enjoy different games that have been updated and upgraded and brought to whole new levels.

There are so many types of card games and everyone of any age can find something interesting for themselves.

Let’s remind ourselves of some of the classic games we might have forgotten and let’s learn about new ones which are a product of the 21st century.

1. Hearts

The only right way to start an ultimate list of online card games is with a classic.

We are all familiar with Hearts – a trick-taking game where the goal is to score less than opponents. The origins of this game take us to 1750s Spain with many variations that occurred over the next 100 hundred years in order to create what we now know as Hearts.

This is a multiplayer game usually played by four players simultaneously. This game goes under the trick-taking games group, which means there are more ‘tricks’ or rounds during one game. In Hearts, the goal is to score as few tricks as possible.

This all-time classic can be played on online websites and platforms with a lot of benefits compared to old-school deck play. There are no time and place boundaries. You can play anytime with other online players or you can play solo against computer bots if you are not confident with your skills yet.

2. Uno

Do you want to play Uno with friends but don’t have a suitable deck? Do not worry. Simply go online and play this popular card game against your friends or online opponents. Uno is a fun game where speed and concentration are most important for scoring but with the addition of luck. The goal is to remove all the cards from your hands before other players. Luck comes into play because the cards are randomly dealt and we randomly shuffle the deck.

It is easy to catch up on the rules since they are simple. You just have to know how and when to use special cards and let nothing interfere with your concentration. And that is difficult while playing a house game.

Everyone around you is probably talking loudly, maybe even arguing and card placement is changing fast. If you are not a fan of noise and losing at card games, it might be better to play online and remove all distractions.

3. Poker

Another classic card game and probably the most popular for its family of card games. We developed many variations through the years and many formats of the game exist. The most popular poker game is Texas Hold’em, and we play it worldwide in live and online tournaments.

If you are a beginner, it might be better to start online until you learn all the rules. And all poker pros know how difficult it is to bluff with a straight “poker face” in person.

One thing is sure, the game is very addictive once you scratch under the surface and see all the aspects of Poker.

4. Hearthstone

As the creators of the game described it, Hearthstone is “deceptively simple and insanely fun”. If you are a fan of fast-paced games with flashy effects, this is the right one for you.

The deck is everything but usual. Each card has a different ‘power’ and strength. Some cards are minors, and others are spells, quests, or heroes. You can choose among ten different hero classes such as rogue or mage for example.

Hearthstone has become globally popular since it incorporates exceptional graphics, cards with powers, and many gameplays. That is why lovers of both card and video games enjoy it.

5. Yu-gi-oh!

For all lovers of the Yu-gi-oh! manga franchise, the card game has been a dream come true.

If you have been born in the late 1990s or early 2000s, chances are you grew up watching or reading Yu-gi-oh! anime and you are very familiar with this global phenomenon. After the series took over the world, the video game was made and so far there are dozens of sequences for different gaming platforms.

This card game has a universe of its own where monsters, spells, and traps come to life in the shape of playing cards. You can create your own deck comprising 40-60 cards and use it in duels against other players.

This thrilling game has millions of fans all over the world and exists in the form of TV series, video games, and playing cards. If you are not familiar with it, get on board. You might find yourself amazed by the endless fun it provides.
